Children’s Literature, Media & Cultural Entrepreneurship (CLMCE) - www.childrensliterature-erasmusmundus.eu - is a unique and profoundly multi-disciplinary master, drawing on literature, childhood studies, film and media studies (including digital) and informed by historical, educational and cultural perspectives. The curriculum creates a strong platform for an integrated approach that reflects current theory and research as well as current challenges and controversies. CLMCE is articulated around both the analysis of a range of children’s and young adult texts (e.g. picturebooks, life writing, fan fictions, multicultural texts, films, video games) and the acquiring of skills involved in working practically with them (e.g. translation, writing, reviewing, editing & developing literacy practices). CLMCE is a 2yr master, delivered in Scotland and Europe. Graduates leave with a multiple degree from Glasgow, Aarhus, and Tilburg, depending on Study Track choices. Work placements in semester 3 offer students practical experiences to complement academic studies reinforcing knowledge in spaces where texts are produced and consumed (e.g. publishers, libraries and festivals). The Tilburg Study track includes ‘transnational texts’; other Study Track options are ‘film and childhood’ at Wrocław (Poland) and ‘management and cultural entrepreneurship’ at Nantes (France). Summer schools are available in Canada (Indigenous literatures and creative writing) or Germany (new cultural studies and digital research methods). At Glasgow, an overview of historical milestones as well as critical theories is delivered. At Aarhus notions related to childhood and media are explored. Year 2 (Study Track universities) in Nantes, Tilburg or Wrocław, looks at transcultural contexts, either as relevant to book promotion, the global canon or film culture. In the last semester students stay with/go to one of the partners to write a dissertation with joint supervision from three relevant partners.
