DocNomadsPlus is a two-year, 120 ECTS credit Joint Master's program that delivers advanced, integrated academic and practical education for an international cohort of aspiring documentary film directors and researchers. Building on the success of EM DocNomads (2012-2026), this new initiative places even stronger emphasis on social inclusion, digital competencies, and sustainability in the context of documentary film. We believe a heterogenous mix of social, economic, and cultural experiences will cultivate a transformative learning environment that allows for innovation and peer collaboration. Furthermore, our scholarship program allows for economic equity by enabling talented students, who might otherwise be excluded, to access the unique educational opportunities offered in Europe and share their films with the audience here. A new European consortium delivers the updated program comprising Universidade Lusófona (Lisbon, Portugal), LMTA—Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (Vilnius, Lithuania), and LUCA School of Arts (Brussels, Belgium). Each student's mobility track begins in Lisbon and progresses through Vilnius to Brussels. In the final semester, students are assigned to one of the consortium partners where they complete the program by producing a documentary film and writing a thesis. Upon graduation, DocNomadsPlus alumni will have acquired comprehensive competencies encompassing creative and critical documentary filmmaking, artistic research, collaborative teamwork, and advanced academic writing. This culminates in their internationally distributed final films, where graduates demonstrate the skills to interrogate and expand the boundaries of documentary storytelling. Whether they embark on professional careers or pursue further academic research, all alumni emerge with a dual emphasis on intellectual rigor and creative expression, a combination in high demand in both academic and industry environments.
