Programme Description The FES scholarship is intended to provide doctoral candidates with both financial and non-material support throughout their doctoral research. Scholarship holders should be able to concentrate on their doctorate without financial worries and have more time for voluntary work. This funding programme is open to applicants who • come from abroad • have been admitted to a doctoral programme at a German higher education institution • have a very good command of German • are actively engaged in society and politics • identify with the values of social democracy • have completed their degree promptly and with above-average results • are pursuing a research project that makes a significant contribution to their field Doctoral projects in all academic disciplines are eligible for funding, with the exception of doctorates in medicine. Target Group Doctoral candidates from abroad who are actively engaged in society and politics and are enrolled at a German higher education institution Academic Requirements admission to a doctoral programme at a state or state-recognised higher education institution in Germany With the exception of doctorates in medicine, doctorates are supported in all degree programmes. Number of Scholarships about 15 scholarships per year Duration The duration of funding is generally 3.5 years. In exceptional cases, funding may be granted for longer, but no longer than until the date of the final examination. Scholarship Value • 1,500 EUR per month • contribution to statutory health insurance • networking within student and working groups • comprehensive seminar programme • participation in symposia Application Papers Application forms and further information on the application procedure can be found here .
