The Geo-information Science and Earth Observation for Environmental Modelling and Management (GEM) programme is a revised Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s designed to address evolving global sustainability and digital innovation needs. GEM equips students with expertise in geospatial technologies, Earth observation (EO), artificial intelligence (AI), and big data analytics, enabling leadership in Europe’s green and digital transitions. GEM supports the EU Competitiveness strategy and key initiatives such as the Green Deal and digitalisation, preparing graduates to tackle challenges like climate adaptation, biodiversity loss, and resource management. Hosted by ITC (NL), Lund University (SE), UCLouvain (BE), and University of Tartu (EE), GEM introduces new features to enhance academic and career outcomes. These include career-focused tracks, a new joint event with industry to support career transitions, and revised courses on emerging technologies such as digital twins and GeoAI. Administrative and management processes have been streamlined to improve student support and operational efficiency. GEM offers extensive mobility opportunities, allowing students to study at multiple institutions, gain diverse academic insights, and collaborate on international projects. Partnerships with organisations like the European Space Agency and many geospatial firms enhance practical training through internships, collaborative research, and mentorships. The programme emphasises career readiness with structured workshops and support for transitions to industry, policy, and research roles. A strong alumni network and partnerships foster lifelong learning and professional growth. Additionally, GEM enhances inclusivity by offering scholarships to students from underrepresented regions, ensuring a dynamic, multicultural environment. These innovations ensure GEM’s long-term impact, supporting modernisation strategies, open science practices, and alignment with global policy priorities.
