Programme Description The PhD scholarships support highly qualified junior academics from the historical sciences with excellent academic standing and brilliant examination results who show unusual promise for their doctoral theses. Applications can be submitted at any time, independent of the candidate's nationality or place of work. Scholarship holders receive a monthly base amount of 1,920 EUR. There are additional benefits, such as family allowances, travel or material costs, if necessary. Please note that income from employment and scholarship income are mutually exclusive. The funding will be awarded over a period of up to 2 years. Target Group highly-qualified, particularly gifted junior academics from the historical humanities with excellent academic standing and brilliant examination results who show unusual promise for their doctoral theses Research projects in the following subject areas are given funding priority: • archaeology • historical sciences • historical Islamic studies • history of art • history of law • prehistory and early history • history of science Applications from neighbouring disciplines are possible if the core research question is historically oriented. Academic Requirements admission to doctoral studies Number of Scholarships At the moment, approx. 50 scholarships are awarded each year. Duration between 12 to 24 months. In justified cases, it is possible to apply for an extension of up to 12 months before the end of the 2nd year of funding. Scholarship Value • scholarship base amount: 1,920 EUR per month • travel allowance: as required • material costs: as required • family allowance, if applicable: 480 EUR for academics with one child, +120 EUR for each additional child Income from employment and scholarship income are mutually exclusive.
