A part of many graduate assistantships in the student affairs field involve supervising and advising undergraduate students. This experience allows emerging professionals to practice creating, maintaining, and sustaining relationships with students, both in and out of the classroom. Graduate assistants also receive mentorship from not only their supervisor and academic advisor, but other professionals in the field. Working in a professional setting as a graduate student provides opportunities for networking and community building.
