HKU Presidential PhD Scholarship

The University of Hong Kong's most prestigious scholarship for outstanding full-time PhD students from around the world. For 2027/28 admission the package is worth up to about HK$445,800 (US$57,150) in the first year and HK$428,300 (US$54,920) in each later year of the normal study period. It includes a fee waiver (HK$49,500 a year), a postgraduate scholarship of HK$28,700 a month, a cash award (HK$40,000 in year one, HK$20,000 a year after), a conference and research travel allowance of HK$14,400 a year, and a guaranteed hall place in year one. Some scholars receive support for an extra year. Every applicant to a full-time PhD at HKU is considered; shortlisted candidates may be interviewed. HKU strongly encourages applying in the main round, which runs from 1 September to 1 December, and applying for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme at the same time.
