Programme Description Women Involvement in Science and Engineering Research (WISER), a programme by the Indo-German Science and Technology Centre (IGSTC), aims to build scientific capacity, encourage, and promote women researchers. Applications for the WISER programme are accepted in a so-called paired mode. This means that 2 researchers join together to form a team that each submits its own application. IGSTC is a joint initiative by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India (GoI). The WISER programme intends to: • Enhance the representation and progression of women researchers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). • Create avenues for networking, interaction and long-term research collaboration. • Promote women to lead consortium based bilateral projects for IGSTC programmes and other funding schemes. Target Group • This scheme is designed for woman researchers holding a regular/long-term research position in academia/in a research institute/in industry in India or Germany. In the following, the terms "Indian or German awardee or applicant" do not refer to the nationality but to the location of the company or organisation the applicant/awardee is working at. • The WISER programme has no age-limit (preference for early/mid-career researchers). Number of Scholarships approx. 20 Duration up to 3 years Scholarship Value The grant will cover basic project assistance (including research staff, minor equipment, consumables, overheads and contingency) for the successful applicants in both countries and up to one month research stay each year in India/Germany (single round-trip airfare, visa fee, medical insurance, per diem for the stay). The maximum grant for three years will be up to 39 lakhs INR for an Indian Principal Investigator (PI) and 48,000 EUR for a German Principal Investigator (PI). Application Papers • The "paired mode" team consists of an Indian and a German researcher (Principal Investigator (PI)), who submit a joint application for WISER funding. • submission of the applications in the online portal of the IGSTC in line with the guidelines for content and format Application Deadline Current application deadlines are published on the IGSTC website. As a rule, the submission deadlines are in February or March of each year.
