Leiden University Excellence Scholarship (LExS)

A partial tuition scholarship for excellent students (roughly the top 10% of their previous programme) starting a full-time master's at Leiden University in September. It is awarded at one of five levels, from €10,000 to €19,000 off the tuition fee, for the length of the programme. It is not a full scholarship: recipients still need substantial funds of their own and must show them for their visa. About 25 are awarded each year from over a thousand applications. Applicants need a non-EEA/EFTA passport (any nationality for the Advanced LLMs and the MSc International Relations and Diplomacy). Leiden Law School's non-advanced LLM and MSc programmes, and February starts, are excluded. Apply for admission first, then apply for the LExS from the Scholarships section of the online application with a motivation letter of up to 500 words. The deadline is 1 December 2026, and results come before the end of March 2027.
