Around two or three full undergraduate scholarships a year at the University of Oxford for students from low-income countries who cannot study for a degree at home for political or financial reasons, or because suitable universities do not exist there. They cover course fees, a grant for living costs and one return air fare a year, for the three or four years of the course. Applicants must be nationals of a country that receives official development assistance (the OECD DAC list, which includes most African countries) and must first apply to Oxford and receive an offer; scholarship applications from students without an offer are not considered. Every subject except medicine is eligible. Selection looks for the highest academic ability, financial need, social commitment and the lack of a chance to study in the home country, with priority for students who have not studied at undergraduate level before. Scholars are expected to return home after their studies. Details of how to apply for 2027 entry will be published on the page in January 2027. The scholarship deadline for 2027 entry is 26 January 2027; selection happens in April and applicants hear by the end of May 2027.
