UBC's need-and-merit-based awards for exceptional international students entering an undergraduate degree straight from secondary school who could not study at UBC without significant financial help. Applicants are considered automatically for four awards: the Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award, the Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award (for students from impoverished or war-torn areas), the International Impact Award, and the Vantage One Excellence Award (up to the full cost of study and living, for students who do not yet meet the English requirement). Applicants must have graduated from secondary school no earlier than June 2026, prove significant financial need with official documents, and meet UBC's English standard by 31 January. Some degrees, such as Nursing and dual or joint degrees, are excluded, and applicants are not considered for UBC's merit-only awards. Applicants apply to UBC, then complete the award application with a school nominator and a teacher referee (each school can nominate a limited number of students). Applications for September 2027 open in the autumn of 2026 and are due by 15 November 2026. Results are released between February and April 2027.
